The first step towards becoming the new, more youthful YOU, is to set up a complimentary consultation with Dr. Marcus. Dr. Marcus will personally sit down with you and take the time to discuss all your concerns. During the consultation, he will gather both medical and personal information to provide valuable insight into optimal medical treatment options. The consultation can last as little as 30 minutes and up to 90 minutes depending on how in-depth the treatment algorithm is. At the end of the consultation, Dr. Marcus’ surgical coordinator will provide a financial quotation and discuss any financing options. Any remaining questions can be answered by Dr. Marcus or the surgical coordinator before the consultation is complete.
The next step is to decide that Marcus Facial Plastic Surgery is the right place for you. Once you’ve decided this, Dr. Marcus will see you for a second consultation and a preoperative visit. During the second consultation, Dr. Marcus will discuss the procedure in more depth and he will discuss the risks, benefits, and alternatives. The preoperative visit can be combined with the second consultation or be an entirely separate visit. During the preoperative meeting, Dr. Marcus will ascertain a pertinent medical history and perform a physical examination. If appropriate, he will order blood work, an EKG, and medical clearance.
On the day of surgery, the patient will need somebody to drive them to hospital or surgery center at which the operation is to be performed. Dr. Marcus will visit with the patient in the preoperative holding room to answer any last-minute questions. The surgery will be performed at one of the local private hospitals or at a surgery center. Currently, a majority of his operations take place at Torrance Memorial Hospital, Little Company of Mary Hospital, and at the Haworth Surgical Institute in Beverly Hills. After surgery, Dr. Marcus will speak with friends, family or loved ones in the waiting room before reviewing the after-care instructions. Dr. Marcus will also call the patient later that evening to follow up on any questions or concerns they may have. All patients will have a scheduled follow up to see Dr. Marcus in his office sometime within the next week, usually the following day.
Following facelift surgery, the patient will have the option of going home or staying in a private, overnight nursing facility. The patient will wear a large dressing around the face overnight and this will be removed in the office the following morning. There should be very little pain or discomfort after surgery and any mild pain will be alleviated with gentle pain medication which is prescribed before surgery. There will be swelling and bruising that lasts approximately 7-10 days and by the two-week mark, most people can easily resume their normal work schedule and social agenda.
